Tips and Hints

Please follow these guidelines and include the necessary documents to assure you have a complete application.

  • Follow the application format, addressing the indicated items.
  • Specify services offered and how many residents use them. If the community also uses the services offered, provide separately the number of the project's residents and the number of community residents who participate in the most current year documented and the number/percentages of residents who have been successfully impacted by services. Indicate the year referenced.
  • Focus on what the project has achieved and currently offers and not on what the project would like to do in the future. The project is being evaluated on its accomplishments.
  • Provide quantifiable data that backs up your success. For example, provide the actual number or percentage of residents who use your services for the most recent year documented. Anecdotal information, while often illustrative, will not substitute for actual data. If your statistics are lower than what one might expect for your population, then briefly explain why. For instance, explain a high turnover rate, low operating expenses, etc.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I find the application?
The MetLife Foundation Awards - Initial Application will be available on the MetLife award section on the Enterprise Community Partners website. Applicants will submit an application for either Supporting Housing or Property and Asset Management. Applicants cannot apply for both.

Do I have to send any other information?
Yes, you will have to submit an organization certification with original signatures (via U.S. mail). With your application you must also submit the following via email: your organizational chart and between six and 12 digital photographs of the project and its residents (include entrance, entire building, surrounding buildings) with descriptions of the photos.

When is the deadline for submitting the application and the mailed information?
The application and supporting information must be emailed by midnight May 16, 2008. The mailed information must be postmarked by May 16, 2008.

Why is the project's time-under-management criteria for property and asset management longer than for supportive housing?
It takes years for property and asset management systems to show their true impact on a property's financial and physical stability. An organization's property and asset management functions cannot be accurately assessed too close to the time the property was developed, so this criteria is five years rather than four  as required for supportive housing properties.

If a project has been completed and occupied by the time required but just changed management, is it still eligible?
Yes. However, you will have to document and explain the reason for the change and show how effectively you have and are overseeing the property management company through the implementation of asset management systems.

Do the required 10 dwelling units have to be in a single site?
No, the 10 dwellings can be single site or scattered.

If we applied last year, can we reapply this year?
Yes, you can. You can apply for the same projects again or for new projects.
